Parish Background

St. Aidan’s began in 1997 as a diverse collection of individuals scattered throughout the East and West Kootenays region of British Columbia, meeting occasionally when a priest was available. From 2003 to 2005, the community was served monthly by Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada. Since 2005, Fr. Larry Reinheimer and Fr. Richard Rene have been serving the community monthly. In 2006, the community chose its heavenly intercessor, making it the second St. Aidan Orthodox Church in the world (the first is in England). In 2007, the community decided to hold weekly typika services. In May 2008, Fr. Richard Rene was appointed as the full-time priest of the mission. In September 2013, Fr. Andrew Applegate was named Priest-in-Charge, and was formally named Rector in March 2015. In April 2017, the community purchased its own building and was raised from mission status.
