Parish Background
On Sunday, January 9, 1983, the eve of the Feast of St Gregory of Nyssa whose patronage was adopted by the parish, thirteen people attended the first worship service. The mission was to establish a campus mission center for Orthodoxy to serve both Ohio State University students and townspeople who wished to worship in the English language.
Through the ups and downs of planting a mission parish, the parishioners of St Gregory's persevered. In 1988 the parish incorporated. Plans for moving into a parish-owned facility crystallized. In 1993, those plans became a reality and St Gregory's new home was established in December.
The parish has completed an upstairs assembly area that has already proved its value in providing a spacious and aesthetically pleasing fellowship area. A chair rail has been installed to assist persons with handicaps to join us in the upper room. Work now nears completion in creating a parish library in our religious education building. Finally the parish continues its commitment to the students at the Ohio State University as well as other colleges and universities in the Central Ohio area.
We are blessed with a number of programs and activities including outreach to the University and neighborhood. We welcome believers called to ministry.
