Parish Background

Founded by a few families in 1978, and served by various visiting clergy for many years, St Thomas became most firmly established as a stable and growing community in the early 2000’s. Since then the parish has outgrown its first permanent building and continues to steadily see new families explore and join the church.

As the only Orthodox parish within the city of Springfield, Missouri, St Thomas is the home parish of many Orthodox of different ethnicities in the area, along with many American-born members who have come to Orthodoxy as adults. Our membership is made up from all ages with a good number of families with children.

While the Orthodox Church is not historically familiar to our area, many have found in it their true spiritual home in direct connection with the Christian life and faith that stretches back to the Apostles.
