Directions


General Location

St John the Baptist Church is located on the corner of Essex and Adeline Sts in Berkeley, CA.

by BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)

Exit at the Ashby station on the Richmond line. The Church is located two doors from the east BART parking lot.

by freeway

Take the Ashby exit on Interstate 80 and drive toward the Berkeley hills. Turn right on Adeline St. The Church is about one block on the left.

from downtown Berkeley

Go south on Shattuck Ave and veer off on Adeline St until you come to Essex.



Schedule of Services


Services are held in English and Slavonic, and the parish follows the Old Calendar.

Saturday Evening
6:30 PM Vigil.

Sunday Morning
10:00 AM Divine Liturgy.

Sunday School
Meets from September through June, from 12:30-2 PM.

Sunday Child Watch for young children
10 AM - 12 noon.

Parish Background


The parish's first services were held in 1923. The parish was registered by 1938, making 1998 our diamond jubilee (60th and 75th). The present church building was acquired in 1950.
