Bishop Ireneu to attend funeral of Romanian Patriarch Teoctist

On Tuesday, July 31, 2007, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, received an invitation from His Eminence, Metropolitan Daniel of Moldova and Bucovina, Locum Tenens of the Patriarchate of the Romanian Orthodox Church, to attend the funeral of His Beatitude, Patriarch Teoctist, who fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, July 30, 2007.

“While hoping that you will join us on this day of Church and national mourning, we kindly ask you to inform us, as soon as possible, of the composition of the delegation of your Church,” Metropolitan Daniel’s invitation reads.

Patriarch Teoctist’s funeral is scheduled to take place in Bucharest’s Patriarchal Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 3. A commemorative session of the Holy Synod will be held earlier the same morning, at which time delegations will present short messages of condolence.

His Grace, Bishop Ireneu of Dearborn, auxiliary to the Romanian Episcopate, will represent Metropolitan Herman and the Orthodox Church in America at the funeral.
