OCA Chancellor, Archivist attend reception for visiting Russian hierarchs

The Very Rev. Alexander Garklavs, chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, and Mr. Alexis Liberovsky, OCA archivist, represented His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman at a reception at the Consulate of the Russian Federation here on August 31, 2007.

The reception marked the beginning of the visit of a large delegation of the Moscow Patriarchate which is celebrating the reconciliation of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and the Patriarchate.

Members of the delegation, which is headed by His Eminence, Metropolitan Isidore of Ekaterinodar and Kuban, also include His Eminence, Metropolitan Onufrij of Chernivtsy and Bukovina; His Eminence, Archbishop Evgeny of Vereia, rector of the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary; a number of other clergy; and the renowned choir of Moscow’s Sretensky Monastery, which is slated to perform at a number of prestigious concert halls.

The reception also marked the 200th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Russia and the US.

During their visit, members of the delegation will participate in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the hierarchical consecration of His Eminence, Metropolitan Laurus, ROCOR.

In addition to traveling throughout North America, members of the delegation also will visit selected parishes in Australia and Europe. Accompanying them is the wonderworking “Reigning” Icon of the Mother of God.
