The 2005 Charity Appeal

Help make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate!

"If you have something above your daily needs, give it to the poor, and then go with boldness to offer your prayers, that is, to converse with God as a son with his Father. Nothing can bring the heart so near to God as almsgiving, and nothing brings such serenity to the mind as voluntary poverty. It is better for you to be called an ignoramus by the many because of the generosity of your hands and your measureless liberality because of your fear of God, than to be called wise and sound of mind by reason of your stinginess."

- St. Isaac the Syrian

Supporting the OCA Charity Appeal is the most effective way to strengthen the Orthodox Church in America's labors to provide assistance to individuals in need of financial assistance to offset medical expenses, loss of medical benefits, ongoing unemployment, and numerous other crises great and small.

Many people have been touched, not only by the tangible assistance your donations provide, but by the simple fact that someone remembered them - and cared enough to reach out with the love of Christ - in their time of need.

Please take a moment and reflect upon what God has given you, and to discern how you might be able to return to God a portion of the blessings you have received.

These appeals have some undistributed funds for 2 basic reasons: (a) several contributions are received after the general distribution is made for three of the appeals (excluding general charity); and (b) two of the appeals (general charity and Christmas stocking) are ongoing, having been in existence for several years, and therefore have beginning balances carried over from the previous campaign.

In summary, each of the appeals has net activity which is represented by the income less distribution and expenses below. The net activity for each of the appeals is as follows: Charity Appeal $33,471.88; Christmas Stocking Appeal $6,653.79; Beslan Appeal $8,987.07; and the Florida Hurricane $13,976.62. The total net activity is $63,089.36, or $342,707.76 less $279,618.40. In addition, the Charity Appeal and the Christmas Stocking project are ongoing appeals and historically have beginning balances carried over from the previous year's campaign. As a result, the difference between the beginning and the ending balances for both appeals represents the same net activity for the 2004 campaign.
