Orthodox Christian Fellowship responded to University of Texas Shooting

AUSTIN, TX [OCA]—In consultation with Orthodox Christian Fellowship first responders, Father Vasileios Flegas, OCF chaplain, Father Dave Lewis, and members of the University of Texas at Austin OCF chapter met off campus on the evening of Tuesday, September 28, 2010 to address ways to minister to fellow students after a lone gunman fired multiple shots on the campus earlier in that day.

The gunman, a 19-year-old math major, fired randomly from an AK-47 as he ran through the campus Tuesday morning before shooting himself to death in the Perry-Castaneda Library. No other injuries were reported, but police locked down the sprawling campus earlier as they checked reports of a second gunman.

“Regrettably the instances of violence occuring on college campuses have increased in recent years,” said an OCF spokesperson. “OCF offers its prayers and support to those affected by this event and has begun taking steps to address the situation.”
