His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon Calls for Prayers for Alaska
His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon has called upon the clergy and faithful of the Orthodox Church in America to offer prayers for the people of Alaska, who are suffering from severe storms and flooding that have recently brought devastation to many villages across the region.
His Eminence Archbishop Alexei of Sitka and Alaska has reported that numerous communities – including Kwigillingok, Kipnuk, Napakiak, Kongiganak, and Bethel, together with other settlements throughout the Yukon–Kuskokwim Delta, Nunivak Island, and the coastal areas toward Norton Sound – have endured significant loss. Homes have been destroyed, and reports indicate that a number of residents remain missing.
His Beatitude encourages the clergy and faithful to remember the people of Alaska both in their prayers and in the petitions of the Divine Services.
