On Tuesday, January 2, 2019, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon celebrated a Service of Thanksgiving at the Chancery’s Saint Sergius Chapel, after which he formally blessed Archpriest Alexander Rental as he begins his duties as the Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America.
At the conclusion of the service, Metropolitan Tikhon presented the Chancellor’s cross to Father Alexander. The cross has been worn by every OCA Chancellor since the time of the late Protopresbyter Joseph Pishtey, who served as Chancellor in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
