Feast of Saint Herman of Alaska celebrated at DC’s St. Nicholas Cathedral

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, presided at the Divine Liturgy marking the Feast of Saint Herman of Alaska at Saint Nicholas Cathedral here on Monday, December 13, 2010.

Concelebrating with Metropolitan Jonah were His Eminence, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, and His Eminence, Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk, Administrator of the [Moscow] Patriarchal Parishes in the USA. Other guest concelebrants, in addition to the cathedral clergy, included Archpriest Victor Potapov, rector of Saint John the Baptist Cathedral [ROCOR], Washington, DC, and monastic representatives of the Kursk Hermitage, Kursk, Russia.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the glorification of Saint Herman, which took place in Kodiak, AK on August 9, 1970.

Following the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Jonah hosted a luncheon for the hierarchs in honor of Metropolitan Alexander’s recent elevation to the dignity of Metropolitan.
