Funeral serices for Serbian Orthodox Metropolitan Christopher announced
Funeral services for His Eminence, Metropolitan Christopher [Kovacevich] of Libertyville and Chicago of the Serbian Orthodox Church will be celebrated Monday and Tuesday, August 23-24.
On Monday, August 23, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 5701 North Redwood Drive, Chicago, IL at 10:00 a.m. At 7:00 p.m. that evening, Funeral Matins will be celebrated at the cathedral.
On Tuesday, August 24, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and Requiem Service will be celebrated at Saint Sava Monastery, 32377 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, IL at 9:00 a.m., followed by interment on the south side of monastery church. A memorial lunch will follow at Holy Resurrection Cathedral.
His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, who will attending the Midwest Diocesan clergy convocation in Chicago August 23-25, is expected to participate in the funeral services.
Metropolitan Christopher, who recently had been diagnosed with bone and brain cancer, fell alseep in the Lord on Wednesday, August 18, 2010.
