OCA faithful asked to support IOCC Myanmar Emergency Appeal

On May 3, 2008, tropical cyclone Nargis struck Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, a nation in southeast Asia on the Indian Ocean. Initial estimates have placed the death toll at over 22,000, while over 44,000 individuals have been reported to be missing.

In a recent media release, International Orthodox Christian Charities [IOCC] announced that it “will provide cash support to its ecumenical partners toward emergency relief supplies for the survivors in Myanmar,” where an estimated one million persons have been left homeless.

Faithful and parishes of the Orthodox Church in America are asked to send contributions directly to IOCC to support its Myanmar relief work.

Contributions to IOCC’s Myanmar Emergency Appeal may be made on-line at www.iocc.org, by calling IOCC’s donation hotline toll-free at 1-877-803-4622, or by mailing a check or money order payable to “IOCC” (include “Myanmar Cyclone” in memo line) to IOCC, PO Box 630225, Baltimore, MD 21263-0225.

IOCC is the official humanitarian agency of Orthodox Christians in America, operating as an agency of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas, of which the OCA is a member.
