Preconciliar Commission to meet May 11-12

The Preconciliar Commission, responsible for planning the 16th All-American Council of the Orthodox Church in America, will meet at the Chancery here May 11-12, 2011.

The Council will be held in Bellevue [Seattle], WA, October 31-November 4, 2011.

“Work is progressing on the Council,” according to Archpriest Eric G. Tosi, OCA Secretary. “The agenda is still be formulated and has to be approved by the Holy Synod of Bishops and Metropolitan Council at their forthcoming meetings after Pascha.”

Recent plans for the Council and related events include the following.

  • A number of events are planned for the weekend prior to the Council opening, including a pilgrimage to Wilkinson, WA, site of a church consecrated by Saint Tikhon and to the Seattle apartment where Saint John Maximovitch reposed.
  • There will be a Hierachical Divine Liturgy at the hotel on Sunday morning, October 30.
  • Some dioceses will hold their assemblies on Monday, October 31, in conjunction with the Council. The first Council session is scheduled for Monday evening; the closing session will be held on Friday afternoon.
  • A pilgrimage to Sitka will take place the weekend following the Council.
  • Registration resources will be posted on the OCA web site in late May. Concurrently, study materials will be made available.
  • Information for exhibitors and vendors will be sent out in May.
  • According to the Statute of the Orthodox Church in America (Article III section 5). agendas. notices and arrangements will be sent out at least 60 days prior to the Council opening, at the end of August. Reports will be sent out 30 days prior to the Council opening.
