Preliminary Strategic Planning report to be presented at March Metropolitan Council meeting

A preliminary report on the work of the Orthodox Church in America’s Strategic Planning Committee [SPC] will be presented to the members of the Metropolitan Council in March 2010, according to Archpriest Robert Arida, SPC chair.

The SPC, with the participation of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, met twice in December 2009 and again in mid-January 2010. An additional meeting will be held with the Lesser Synod of Bishops on February 10-11.

Chartered by the Metropolitan Council, the SPC has been charged with facilitating the creation of a strategic plan for the OCA that captures its values, goals, strategies and organizational structure. To accomplish this, the SPC is using a conciliar process, reaching out to all levels of the Church for their input, beginning with the Metropolitan and the members of the Holy Synod. Additional in-depth meetings will be held later in the year with the members of the Metropolitan Council, while dioceses and parishes will be included in the process in the fall of 2010. The goal is to finalize a draft plan for discussion, amendment and adoption at the 16th All American Council in the fall of 2011.

Other SPC members include Archpriests Theodore Boback, Michael Oleksa, Eric Tosi, and Alexis Vinogradov; Priest John Vitko; Protodeacon Peter Danilchick; Deacon John Zarras; David Grier, Eleana Silk, and Dr. Dmitri Solodow.
