Sign up now for OCMC 2011 mission teams to Alaska, elsewhere
Bethel, Alaska’s St. Sophia Church. Bethel is the hub for the Yukon-Kuskokwim region and home to over 6,400 people.

SYOSSET, NY [OCA]—The Florida-based Orthodox Christian Mission Center [OCMC] will be hosting three short-term mission teams to Alaska during the summer of 2011.

  • Bethel, AK—Beginning July 22—Team members will assist the faithful of Saint Sophia Church [OCA] complete a variety of construction projects, including interior painting, flooring, trimming, etc.
  • Old Harbor, AK—Beginning July 29—Team members will participate in a youth camp program.
  • Hoonah, AK—Beginning August 11—Team members will participate in a community outreach ministry at Saint Nicholas Church [OCA].

For many years, OCMC mission teams have engaged in a variety of ministries in conjunction with the Orthodox Church in America’s Diocese of Alaska.

OCMC also will be hosting several other mission teams during the summer, including

  • Albania—Beginning May 23—Teaching ministry while earning credits.
  • Uganda—Beginning June 11—Offer health services to children and adults who have limited access to medical care.
  • Guatemala—Beginning July 7—Youth ministry at a summer camp in Guatemala City and ministry at the Hogar Rafael Ayau Orphanage.
  • Romania—Beginning July 7—Youth ministry and participation in a camping program in Cluj.
  • Albania—Beginning July 17—Outreach ministry in a family camp-style setting.
  • South Korea—Beginning July 23—Teach English at youth camps.
  • Tanzania—Beginning July 25—Teach basic catechism and participate in the annual seminar for Church leaders and young adults.
  • Madagascar—Beginning August 1—Teach basic catechism to people from isolated villages in which Orthodox Christianity is spreading.
  • Tanzania—Beginning October 4—Minister to the medical and spiritual needs of children and adults with limited access to health care services.

Since its establishment by the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas in 1994, OCMC has reached out to over 31 countries worldwide with mission programs, long and short term mission teams, and other resources.
