Andrew Boyd appointed head of OCA Department of Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministries

Andrew Boyd has been appointed by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, as the director of the Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries.

A native of Connecticut, Andrew grew up in the faith as a member of Holy Transfiguration Church in New Haven, CT and Saint Alexis Church, Clinton, CT.  He attended the University of Connecticut, where he was an active member of the local chapter of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship and attended Holy Trinity Church in Willimantic, CT.

After graduating from the University of Connecticut early in December 2008, he worked as an intern at the headquarters of Syndesmos, the World Fellowship of Orthodox Youth, in Athens, Greece.  After his return to the US in July 2009, he entered the Master’s of Divinity Program at Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, from which he graduated cum laude in May 2012.

Since 2010, Andrew has edited the department’s blog, “Wonder,” which publishes several articles every month on specific themes.  He plans on expanding the department’s multi-media and social networking offerings following the recommendations of the strategic plan approved at the 16th All-American council.

“Our youth and young adults live in social media, the ‘highways and byways’ of our generation. Meeting them there with meaningful and uplifting content is a priority of mine,” Andrew said.  “I look forward to working with the members of the strategic planning committee together with our hierarchs, clergy, and local youth leaders to define and shape our ministry efforts at the national, diocesan, and parochial level.”

Andrew begins his duties as department director on July 1, 2012. He may be reached at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or at 203-215-1690.
