Archbishop Seraphim sentence to be announced on July 9

The Orthodox Church in America has learned that the judge in the Archbishop Seraphim (Storheim) case has delayed announcement of the sentence until July 9, 2014. Archbishop Seraphim was convicted of one count of sexual assault on January 24, 2014.

The work of the Synodal Commission continues pending Crown approval to interview involved parties. Since April 3, 2014 the Synodal Commission has had three conference calls on the gathered material, consulted with legal counsel, read through the 700 pages of trial transcripts, read through the lengthy decision of the judge and constructed a timeline based on the currently available documents. The canonical process by the Holy Synod continues which will lead to a spiritual court by the Holy Synod at the appropriate time.
