The funeral for Archpriest Sergei Glagolev was held at Saint Tikhon’s Monastery, South Canaan, PA on Friday, September 10, 2021. Presiding at the services was His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon

The funeral service was served by Metropolitan Tikhon at 7:00 PM. Serving with him were His Eminence Archbishop Michael, the Chancellor Archpriest Alexander Rentel, the Secretary Priest Alessandro Margheritino, and several other priests and deacons.

At the service, a eulogy was given by His Beatitude. In it, he reminded us of how important the Psalms were in Fr Sergei’s life and that they “are given to us as a means of responding to all the conditions of our human existence: despair and hope, sorrow and joy, despondency and faith, emptiness and glorious worship. Most of us turn to the Psalms — as we turn to the scriptures in general, or to the writings of the fathers — when the occasion presents itself, or when the circumstances for us to seek out those sources of consolation and hope.” His Beatitude went on to say that “Fr. Sergei was one of those rare persons who needed no external incentive to turn to the psalms or other liturgical hymns of the Church” but “His very being seemed to pulse with the exclamations of David: Oh, how I love Thy law! It is my meditation all the day. Thy commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies are my meditation” (Psalm 118[119]:97-99).

The following morning, September 11th, the Divine Liturgy was served at 9:00 AM. At the service, a homily was given by Archpriest John Jillions. His Eminence Archbishop Michael also offered a eulogy after the Divine Liturgy. The interment at the monastery followed immediately after.

The choir was directed by Benedict Sheehan and used musical pieces composed by Father Sergei whenever possible.
