Metropolitan Council Meets in Special Session
On Thursday, November 19, 2020, the Metropolitan Council of the Orthodox Church in America met via teleconference in Special Session under the presidency of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon. During the course of the meeting, the Metropolitan Council heard a report from the Reverend Deacon Peter Ilchuk on the scheduling difficulties regarding the upcoming 20th All-American Council due to the present public health situation. Having considered his report, the Metropolitan Council decided to postpone the 20th All-American Council from July 2021 until July 2022. This decision will now be considered by the Holy Synod for final determination.
The members of the Metropolitan Council also heard a report from its Property Committee on the status of the sale of the Chancery property. Having heard this report, the Metropolitan Council decided to retain a licensed New York attorney to assist the Church in any negotiations or sale of the Chancery property.
