St. Vladimir’s Seminary to celebrate Orthodox Ed Day October 4

Ed Day

The community of Saint Vladimir’s Seminary here has been busy making final preparations for Orthodox Education Day, slated to be celebrated on the school’s campus on Saturday, October 4, 2014.

The theme—“Do Books Still Matter?  A Celebration of Orthodox Christian Publications”—will be developed by Archpriest Dr. John Behr, Dean, who will deliver the day’s keynote address, titled “From Scroll to Book to Net: The Web of Knowledge.”  Nine Orthodox Christian publishers—SVS Press, Saint Tikhon’s Monastery Press, Holy Cross Orthodox Press, Holy Trinity Publications, Mount Thabor, LLC, Sebastian Press, Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery, All Saints Monastery, and Ancient Faith Publishing—will display their books and wares throughout the event.

The day will also feature panels and workshops on writing and reading, and publishing and libraries, for children, young adults, and adults.  A new and fun addition to the day will be local food trucks, and a special cooking demonstration by the seminary’s chef, Nat Fasciani, using recipes from his recently published When You Feast: Recipes for Celebrations [SVS Press, 2013].
