Search opened for part-time OCA Pension Plan Bookkeeper

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — The Pension Board of the Orthodox Church in America is seeking a part-time bookkeeper to perform the full complement of bookkeeping functions for the OCA Pension Plan and record transactions within established systems and procedures.

The part-time position involves ten to fifteen hours per week.

Essential functions include using QuickBooks and Microsoft Access; verifying and entering transactions in computerized accounting system; preparing monthly pension contribution notices; preparing cash disbursements to retirees and vendors; preparing monthly financial statements from the computerized accounting system; preparing Prepares appropriate schedules and reports as requested; handling accounting mail, including notices and disbursements; preparing tax returns on timely basis (Form 1099 and others as needed); and researching accounts payable and accounts receivable issues as needed. Other functions include reviewing monthly statements with external accountants; tracking overdue accounts and performing collection efforts as requested; and performing other duties as assigned by the Pension Administrator.

A minimum of three years of accounting/bookkeeping in a computerized system including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reports is required. Some college is desirable, as is the ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.

Computer literacy a must, as is knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, and Word. Knowledge of Microsoft Access desirable, but not required.

Also required is an ability to operate general office equipment; Knowledge of regulatory requirements for processing pension distribution transactions and related tax returns; experience with taxes, collections, and financial statements; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; the ability to keep personnel matters confidential; and the ability to adapt to new systems and procedures.
