Parish Background

Christ the Saviour Cathedral was founded in 1962 by the late Fr George Gladky.  Under his leadership, the Cathedral was involved in missionary activity throughout the Diocese of the South, helping to start parishes in several parts of Florida and the southeast United States.

In the early 1980s, new property was purchased in Miami Lakes, where the first phase of constructing a new church edifice began.  The Cathedral officially moved from their original location in Miami to the new property on July 14, 1994.  The second phase, the construction of a permanent temple, was completed in 2006, under the leadership of Fr Philip Reese.  The final phase of construction and beautification was completed in 2017, and the Cathedral was consecrated by Archbishop Alexander on Pentecost 2018, which also marked the retirement of Fr Philip and the installation of Fr Joseph Lucas as rector.

Christ the Saviour Cathedral remains a vibrant Orthodox community that offers regular Bible studies, catechism classes, lecture series, and community outreach events.  The parish is ethnically diverse, and all services are in English.
