Parish Background

Holy Trinity Sobor is the oldest Orthodox Church in Winnipeg.  It was originally started by Russian/Ukrainian/Greek immigrants, around 1898.  The Ukrainian Catholics separated a few years later.  The present temple was constructed in 1904, and consecrated by Bishop Tikhon (later Saint Patriarch Tikhon of Moscow) in 1905.  Holy Trinity Sobor was the first Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Canada, from 1916, when the first bishop was assigned, through the time of Archbishop Arseny, until Bishop Antony was moved to Montreal.
