Parish Background

With a blessing from Fr. Andrew Tregubov, Rector, Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, Claremont, NH, some parishioners more than an hour’s drive from the parish started holding Readers’ Vespers at the St. Johnsbury VT home of Subdeacon Mark and Laura Montague on Saturday evenings. That was 2011, and meetings continued regularly ever since. For many years, it was just two families that attended (and the other family became Orthodox), with an occasional visitor. In 2021, two more families joined. Our small group formed a choir for the service. We have a potluck meal afterwards, which is a chance for adults and children alike to spend time with each other. And then we have a reading group for all who wish to join in. We have read many different books over the years, including The Orthodox Church, The Brothers Karamazov, The Way of a Pilgrim, and excerpts from the desert fathers. In 2025, we grew to more than 20 persons. In January 2026 we moved out of the Montague home and we began renting the downtown Episcopal church, 27 persons attending the first service of Great Vespers. On February 20, 2026, His Grace, Bishop BENEDICT, granted us Provisional Mission Status and placed us under the heavenly protection of the Righteous Olga of Kwethluk. The mission
is now known as St. Olga Mission.
