Updates from the Department of Liturgical Music

Post-Gospel Stichera

In the Post-Gospel Stichera at Matins, the “Glory… Through the prayers…” etc. is always sung in Tone 2 according to OCA practice. “Have mercy on me, O God…” which follows, is almost always sung in Tone 6. New music posted for the Nativity of the Theotokos reflects this correction, as well as a translational correction in the first two verses: “…blot out the multitude of our transgressions.” Music for Matins for other feasts, when posted, will also reflect both these corrections.

New Diptychs Include Macedonian Orthodox Church

Updated diptychs, sung whenever the Metropolitan presides at the Divine Liturgy, have been posted here, updated to include the Macedonian Orthodox Church after the formal liturgical recognition and concelebration of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, and His Beatitude, Archbishop Stefan of Ohrid and Macedonia, on September 2, 2025. Choir directors and deacons serving with His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, should ensure that they are using up-to-date versions of the diptychs for Primatial Divine Liturgies.

Tone 6 Resurrectional Kanon Now Available

The Resurrectional Kanon in Tone 6 is now available in two settings: Imperial Court Chant from L'vov-Bakhmetev and Lesser Znamenny Chant from Klimov-Lebedev. Both settings can be found here. In addition, the Stichera at the Praises for the Third Sunday of Lent, to the Model melody “As one valiant” have been revised, correcting some irregularities in the phrasing and harmonization.
