Composite 1 - Genesis 17:1-2, 4, 5-7, 8, 9-10, 11-12, 14 (Vespers, 1st reading)

1
The Lord appeared to Abram and said to him: “I am thy God. Be well pleasing before Me, and be blameless. And I will establish My covenant between Me and thee, and I will multiply thee exceedingly. And thou shalt be a father of many nations. And thy name shall no more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham, for I have made thee a father of many nations. And I will increase thee very exceedingly; and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. And I will establish My covenant between Me and thee and thy seed after thee, in their generations, for an everlasting covenant; and I will be a God to them.” And Abraham fell down on his face, and worshiped the Lord.
2
And God said to Abraham: “As for thee, thou shalt keep My covenant, thou and thy seed after thee in their generations. And this is the covenant which thou shalt keep, between Me and thee and thy seed after thee, in their generations: Thou shalt circumcise the flesh of thy foreskin, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and thee and thy seed after thee, in their generations. And the child of eight days shall be circumcised by thee, every male throughout thy generations. And the male child, who shall not be circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin on the eighth day, that soul shall be cut off from his family, for he hath broken My covenant.”
