Troparia and kontakia for March 28

HOLY PASCHA: The Resurrection of Our Lord

Troparion — Tone 4

Christ is risen from the dead, / trampling down death by death, / and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!

Troparion — Tone 8

(Hypakoe)
Before the dawn Mary and the women came / and found the stone rolled away from the tomb. / They heard the angelic voice: “Why do you seek among the dead as a Man / the One Who is everlasting Light? / Behold the clothes in the grave; go and proclaim to the world: / ‘The Lord is risen; He has slain death, / as He is the Son of God, saving the race of man.’”

Kontakion — Tone 8

You descended into the tomb, O Immortal, / You destroyed the power of death. / In victory You arose, O Christ God, / proclaiming: “Rejoice!” to the Myrrhbearing Women, / granting peace to Your Apostles, and bestowing Resurrection on the fallen.

Venerable Hilarion the New, Abbot of Pelekete

Troparion — Tone 5

Adorned with gladness of soul / as a pure vessel of the wisdom of Christ, / you were a reflection of the life in God. / Therefore you are resplendent with the light of virtues, / O Father Hilarion, / and you guide us unerringly to the salvation of our souls!

Kontakion — Tone 4

Righteous Hilarion, like a fruitful olive tree that has blossomed, / with your oil you mystically make radiant those who sing to you: / “Rejoice, unwavering rule of the righteous!”

Venerable Stephen, Wonderworker, Abbot of Triglia

Troparion — Tone 8

Champion of Orthodoxy, teacher of purity and of true worship, / the enlightener of the universe and the adornment of hierarchs: / all-wise father Stephen, your teachings have gleamed with light upon all things. / Intercede before Christ God to save our souls.

Monastic Martyr Eustratius of the Kiev Near Caves

Troparion — Tone 1

The image of God was truly preserved in you, O Father, / for you took up the Cross and followed Christ. / By so doing you taught us to disregard the flesh for it passes away / but to care instead for the soul, since it is immortal. / Therefore your spirit, venerable Eustratius, rejoices with the angels.

Kontakion — Tone 2

As a venerable and proven ascetic, as an honorable and renowned martyr, / and as a model of the desert life, O most exalted Eustratius, / we sing hymns of praise to you, / for you have trampled upon serpents.

Venerable Hilarion of Pskov, Lake Gdov

Troparion — Tone 8

By a flood of tears you made the desert fertile, / and your longing for God brought forth fruits in abundance. / By the radiance of miracles you illumined the whole universe! / O our holy father Hilarion, pray to Christ our God to save our souls!

Martyred brothers Barachisius and Jonah, and those with them, in Persia

Troparion — Tone 4

Your holy martyrs, O Lord, / through their sufferings have received an incorruptible crown from You, our God. / For having Your strength, they laid low their adversaries, / and shattered the powerless boldness of demons. / Through their intercessions, save our souls!

Martyr Boyan, Prince of Bulgaria

Troparion — Tone 3

Your holy martyr Boyan, O Lord, / through his suffering has received an incorruptible crown from You, our God. / For having Your strength, he laid low his adversaries, / and shattered the powerless boldness of demons. / Through his intercessions, save our souls!

Kontakion — Tone 2

(Podoben: “You sought the heights...”)
You appeared as a bright star announcing Christ with your radiance, / which is repulsive to this world, O Martyr Boyan; / extinguishing the allure of false gods, / you enlighten the faithful, / always interceding for us all.

Venerable John, Bishop of Manglisi

Troparion — Tone 4

In truth you were revealed to your flock as a rule of faith, / an image of humility and a teacher of abstinence; / your humility exalted you; / your poverty enriched you. / Hierarch Father John, / entreat Christ our God / that our souls may be saved.
