Mrs. Dorothy Vernak, 93, beloved mother of Archpriest David [Matushka Miriam] Vernak and grandmother of Priest Steven [Matushka Anna] Vernak and Matushka Anastasia [Archpriest Victor] Gorodenchuk, fell asleep in the Lord at home on Sunday, February 28, 2016.
Born in Ambridge, PA, the daughter of the late Michael and Susan Sapp Bowan, she was a life-long member of Holy Ghost Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Vernak, in 1995; three brothers and three sisters. In addition to her son, Father David, and grandchildren, Father Steven and Matushka Anastasia and their spouses, she is survived by a daughter, Karen Vernak; four additional grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and numerous godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Bonn-Matich Funeral Home, 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, PA on Tuesday, March 1 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m., at which time a Panikhida will be celebrated. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Church, Ambridge, PA on Wednesday, March 2, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery. A memorial luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Holy Ghost Church, 210 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, PA 15003-2516.
