Mary Eleanor Trader of Dover, Delaware, mother of His Grace Bishop Alexis of Bethesda, fell asleep in the Lord at her home on Friday, January 22, 2021. She was 83 years old. Mary was born to the late Purnal and Mary Friedel in Viola, DE on December 15, 1937.

Mary was a graduate of Felton High School and the Milford School of Nursing. She was a caring, thoughtful woman with a sunny disposition that worked as a registered nurse, serving as the head nurse on the east wing at Milford Memorial Hospital where she worked for 5 years. After this, she then moved onto the Delaware Hospital for the chronically ill where she worked for one year after which she devoted herself to being a homemaker and raising her son. In her free time, she enjoyed ballroom dancing and swimnastics at the YMCA. Her Christian walk was always a central part of her life. She was a faithful member of Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church and an avid reader of spiritual books and the lives of the saints.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband Judge Merrill C. Trader; her son, His Grace Bishop Alexis of Bethesda, and her daughter Rosemary Blum of Lawrence, Kansas; brother, Purnal Friedel and his wife Norma Jean of Viola.

Services will be held on Monday, February 15 at Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Dover, DE. Viewing begins at 10:00 AM; Funeral Service at 11:00 am; and interment at 1:00 PM at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
