The Very Rev. Svetislav Balevich

The Very Rev. Svetislav Balevich, retired rector of Holy Trinity Church here, died on November 28, 2003 after a brief illness.

Born May 31, 1934, the son of the late Alexander and Maria Balevich, he completed his secondary education in Venezuela, after which he and his family emigrated to Toronto, ON, Canada, where he was employed by the Ontario Department of Highways. In 1967 he began theological studies at Saint Tikhon Seminary, South Canaan, PA in 1967. The following year he married the former Eva Lazorack. After his ordination to the Diaconate in Montreal and to the Holy Priesthood in Toronto, he was assigned to Holy Trinity Church, Moose Jaw, SK, which he faithfully served until his retirement in 2002.

Funeral services were celebrated by His Eminence, Archbishop Lazar, retired; the Very Rev. Dennis Pihach, Chancellor of the Diocese of Canada; and numerous clergy at Holy Trinity Church, Moose Jaw December 2-3, 2003. Interment followed at Saint Tikhon Monastery, South Canaan, PA.

In addition to his wife Eva, Father Balevich is survived by two sons, Nicholas, Sanford, FL and Igor, Stamford, CT.
