On Monday, January 13, 2025, the COMISS Network held its Annual Forum: “Celebrating 100 years in Clinical Pastoral Education and Training: Pastoral, Present, and the Future”, in Silver Spring, MD. The Seventh-Day Adventist community hosted this gathering at their world headquarters there, complete with a hybrid room, allowing full physical and virtual attendance. Archpriest Steven Voytovich, the current COMISS National Leadership Teach Chair, noted this was a high water mark for him as his final function as team chair.

The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America has announced the upcoming retirement of His Eminence Archbishop Benjamin, Archbishop of San Francisco and the West. In a letter read before the Synod at its recent session, His Eminence asked the Holy Synod to accept his retirement, taking effect on July 15, 2025, the second day of the 21st All-American Council in Phoenix, AZ. With gratitude for his many years of service, the Holy Synod received and accepted his letter, expressing their appreciation for His Eminence’s tireless commitment to Christ’s Church and the faithful of the Diocese of the West.

Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America celebrate 97th Convention
Delegates from across the United States gathered at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church (OCA) in Mogadore (Akron), Ohio from July 26th through the 29th for the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America’s (FOCA) annual convention. The four-day convening focused discussions and movement on issues very pertinent to the life of the Church. Welcomed by V. Rev. Nicholas Wyslutsky, FOCA National Spiritual Advisor and Rector of the parish and joined by His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest, and His Grace Bishop Gerasim of Fort Worth and the South and Holy Synod liaison to the FOCA. The weekend was filled with family friendly activities culminating with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Sunday. Activities included the Akron Zoo, Akron AA baseball, and a visit to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon and the delegation from the Orthodox Church in America visited Constantinople from June 7 to June 10, 2024. During their time in Constantinople and at the Phanar, the delegation met with hierarchs and members of the Patriarchal Court. Their discussions covered various topics, including their recent trips to Ukraine and Romania, as well as matters related to Orthodoxy in North America.

The delegation of the Orthodox Church in America, led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, visited Romania from June 4 to June 7, 2024. The delegation includes Archpriest Alexander Rentel, OCA Chancellor, Archpriest Nazari Polataiko, and Deacon Vitaly Permiakov. Their visit strengthened the OCA’s ties and friendship with the Romanian Orthodox Church and included engagements at the Putna Monastery and an audience at the Patriarchal Palace.

A delegation from the Orthodox Church in America, led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, visited Ukraine from June 1 to June 4, 2024. The delegation, which included Archpriest Alexander Rentel, OCA Chancellor, Archpriest Nazari Polataiko, and Deacon Vitaly Permiakov, aimed to show support and solidarity to His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy, the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) and the entire people of Ukraine who are suffering now because of the unjust aggression of the Russian Federation.

Holy Synod Meets for its Regular Spring 2024 Session
On April 2-4, 2024, the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America met for its Regular Spring 2024 Session in Springfield, VA, under the presidency of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon Celebrates Feast of the Three Hierarchs
On January 29-30, 2024 His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon presided at the celebrations for the patronal feast day of the Three Hierarchs chapel at Saint Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary.
Monday, January 29, His Beatitude celebrated the Festal Vigil in the seminary chapel. Concelebrating with His Beatitude were His Grace Bishop Nikodhim of Boston and the Albanian Archdiocese, and His Grace Bishop Benedict of Hartford and New England.
The next morning, January 30, His Beatitude presided at the celebration of the hierarchical Divine Liturgy. Concelebrating with His Beatitude were His Grace Bishop Nikodhim, His Grace Bishop Benedict, Archpriest Alexander Rentel, OCA Chancellor, Archpriest Chad Hatfield, President of the Seminary, and other seminary and visiting clergy.
During the course of the Liturgy His Beatitude ordained Monk Stephen Guirgis to the Holy Diaconate.
His Beatitude offered the homily where he used the three hierarchs, Ss. Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom, as a celebration of unity and harmony in the Church. His Beatitude explained that this harmony is the harmony in the Gospel which extends into the lives of the faithful as “the harmony between words and deeds, doctrine and practice, contemplation and action. This is clearly expressed in today’s Gospel, when the Lord tells us, his disciples: ‘Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.’”

Following the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude greeted the clergy and faithful where he wished a joyful feast to all assembled. He also greeted the newly ordained deacon and encouraged everyone likewise “to minister to one another, to condescend to each other’s weakness, to support each other in the struggle, to strengthen one another’s faith.”
The faithful and parishes of the Orthodox Church in America are urged to intentionally pray for vocations and to support the seminaries, students, faculty, and their families. It is also vital to commit to financially support the three OCA seminaries as they continue the necessary work of providing exceptional education and spiritual formation for the future leaders of the Orthodox Church.
Parishes are reminded of the resolution approved at the 16th All-American Council in Seattle, which calls for parishes of the Orthodox Church in America to allocate 1% of their budget towards the support of these seminaries.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon meets with His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas
On Monday, January 29, 2024, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon visited His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. The meeting took place at the Synodal Residence of Metropolitan Nicholas. Prior to the meeting, His Beatitude venerated the Kursk Root icon of the Mother of God at the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign. After visiting the cathedral, the metropolitans met in the private residence of Metropolitan Nicholas where they discussed matters of common interest between the Churches.
Metropolitan Tikhon participates in 2024 March for Life and attends Archdiocesan Choir Concert
On Friday, January 19, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon participated in the annual March for Life in Washington, DC. His Beatitude was joined by His Grace Bishop Andrei of Cleveland, Archpriest Alexander Rentel, OCA Chancellor, Archpriest Alessandro Margheritino, OCA Secretary, Archpriest Chad Hatfield, President of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, Archpriest John Parker, Dean of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, along with numerous clergy, seminarians, and faithful.
Metropolitan Tikhon visits with bishops of the Armenian Diocese of America
On Friday, December 22, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon welcomed to the Chancery office in Virginia His Grace Bishop Mesrop (Parsamyan), Primate of the Armenian Eastern Diocese of America, and His Eminence Archbishop Vicken (Aykazian), Ecumenical Director and Diocesan Legate.
During their meeting, the bishops discussed various topics of mutual interest to the Orthodox and Armenian churches. They addressed the challenges but also the opportunities faced by their respective communities in North America and the work of the ecumenical movement.
Metropolitan Tikhon remembers Protopresbyter Alexander Schmemann on the 40th Anniversary of his repose
Following the hierarchical Divine Liturgy celebrated at St. Tikhon’s Monastery Church on Wednesday, December 13, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon celebrated a Memorial Service for the ever-memorable Protopresbyter Alexander Schmemann on the 40th anniversary of his repose. Just before noon, family members, seminarians, and visitors gathered at the grave of Fr. Alexander in the monastery cemetery where His Beatitude served the Panikhida. Responses were sung by the seminary choir under the direction of Paul Kappanadze.
Metropolitan Tikhon visits St. Tikhon’s Monastery and Seminary for Feast of St. Herman
On Tuesday, December 12, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon made an archpastoral visit to St. Tikhon’s Monastery and St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA, where he presided at services for the Feast of St. Herman of Alaska, the patron saint of the Orthodox Church in America.
Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Benedict as Bishop of Hartford and New England
On Saturday, December 2, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, hierarchs of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America, and hierarchs of other sister Orthodox Churches gathered at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Boston, MA, along with clergy and faithful of the Diocese of New England for the ordination to the Holy Episcopate of Bishop-elect Benedict (Churchill), as Bishop of Hartford and the Diocese of New England.

Divine Liturgy celebrated at Saint Sergius Chapel
On Tuesday, November 28, Archpriest Alexander Rentel, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, presided at the Divine Liturgy at the Saint Sergius Chapel at the Westwood property in Oyster Bay Cove, NY.
As progress continues toward the full relocation of the Chancery to Virginia, where the core of operations are located, the Chancery office remains partially operational at Westwood, and the chapel of Saint Sergius remains open for prayer and occasional services.
In attendance at the Liturgy were staff who came up from Virginia to plan the next phase of the relocation process.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon Visits St. Matthew Church, Columbia, MD
On Sunday, November 12, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon made an archpastoral visit to St. Matthew Church in Columbia, MD, where he presided at the celebration of the hierarchical Divine Liturgy, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the founding of the parish and the 15th anniversary of the consecration of the church building. Concelebrating with His Beatitude were Archpriest Constantine White, Rector, and Priest Chterion Zaprianov, Rector of St. John of Rila Bulgarian Church.
Holy Synod elects Hieromonk Benedict as Bishop of Hartford and the Diocese of New England
On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America, meeting under the presidency of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chicago, IL, at its Regular Fall 2023 Session, canonically elected the Reverend Hieromonk Benedict (Churchill) as the Bishop of Hartford and the Diocese of New England. Father Benedict had been nominated by the Diocese of New England by their special nominating assembly on October 28, 2023.

OCA Clergy Participate in National Clergy Retreat
Almost 120 bishops and priests from across the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) participated in the National Clergy Retreat from October 17-20, 2023, at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake Conference Center in Mundelein, Illinois. The retreat was sponsored by the OCA Office of Pastoral Life as an opportunity for fellowship, prayer and education for priests and bishops. Between sessions, clergy enjoyed conversation, fellowship and the beautiful grounds of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake.

Metropolitan Council meets for its Regular Fall 2023 Session
On October 11-12, 2023, the Metropolitan Council of the Orthodox Church in America met in person to conclude its Regular Fall 2023 Session in Springfield, VA, under the presidency of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon. The Fall Session began with a meeting via teleconference on September 28.

Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Nikodhim as Bishop of Boston and the Albanian Archdiocese
On Saturday, September 16, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon and other hierarchs of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America gathered at Saint George Cathedral in Boston, MA, along with clergy and faithful of the Albanian Archdiocese and across the Orthodox Church in America, for the ordination to the Holy Episcopate of Bishop-elect Nikodhim (Preston), as Bishop of Boston and the Albanian Archdiocese. The Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America elected Archimandrite Nikodhim as Bishop-elect of Boston at their regular Spring Session on April 25, 2023.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon Presides at 119th Annual Memorial Day Pilgrimage
The 119th Annual Pilgrimage to Saint Tikhon’s Monastery was held from May 26 to May 29, 2023. His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon presided at the pilgrimage which commenced on Friday, with a welcome of the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, which was greeted at the monastery archway. The icon was then carried in procession to the monastery church, where a Service of Thanksgiving was celebrated in its honor.

On Wednesday, May 10, the Midfeast of Pentecost, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon attended the Divine Liturgy at All Saints of America Orthodox Church in Alexandria, VA. Priest Alessandro Margheritino, who presided at the Divine Liturgy, welcomed His Beatitude, Archpriest Alexander Rentel, and other Chancery staff members. His Beatitude greeted the parish community with the joy of the feast, encouraging the faithful to thirst for the life-giving water that our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ offers us, especially during this blessed season.

On May 6, 2023 His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon made a pastoral visit to the parish of Holy Ghost Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, CT. His Beatitude presided at the celebration of the hierarchical Divine Liturgy where he ordained Dn. Mark Roosien to the Holy Priesthood. Concelebrating with His Beatitude were Archpriest John Kreta, Chancellor of the Diocese of New England, Archpriest Chad Hatfield, President of Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, as well as several other local clergy.
