Reflection on Thanksgiving Day (Canada)

Happy Thanksgiving to my flock in Canada!

As we celebrate the bountiful harvest of the earth this day, we are reminded that God “established the earth; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited” (Is. 45:18). From the Arctic Circle to the Atlantic Coast, from the Prairies of the West to the lowland forests of the East, the Lord has arranged our environment so that mankind can survive and prosper. All things were made by him so that, enjoying these earthly blessings, man—and through man, every creature—might come to know and to thank the One in whom all things live and move and have their being. Marveling at the blessings of his providential design, we recognize that the Lord is not distant from us, concerned only with heavenly matters; he attends to every detail of our life on earth. As he himself says, even the hairs of our head are numbered. Thus, a celebration of the earthly harvest is ultimately a celebration of his all-encompassing love and care.

To our one God in Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who made us, who sustains us, and who desires that we live eternally with him, delighting forever in the richness of his blessings, be due all thanksgiving and adoration, now and ever unto ages of ages.
