Archpriest George Gerov, 95, fell asleep in the Lord here on Sunday, March 20, 2016.
Father George faithfully served as a parish priest in Bulgaria before immigrating to the United States in 1962. Since that time, he has served numerous parishes in New York, Ohio, Michigan and Florida under multiple jurisdictions, including the Orthodox Church in America, the Serbian Diocese and the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. He also was instrumental in establishing Saint Demetrius Church [OCA], Naples, FL.
Father George is survived by his wife, Popodia Vasilka Gerova; his children Eugene Gerov and Ginka Gerova Ortega; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, Miami Lakes, FL from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31. A Panikhida will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral for a Priest will be celebrated at the cathedral at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1. Interment will follow at Vista Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Father George’s family suggests that donations in his memory be made to Christ the Saviour Cathedral, 16601 NW 77th Court, Miami, FL 33016.
