Matushka Carol Ann Janeček, the wife of Archpriest Frederick J. Janeček, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the age of 80, after a heroic battle with thyroid cancer. She reposed surrounded by her husband, and son, John Frederick, shortly after receiving Holy Communion with awareness and devotion.
Matushka Carol Ann (nee Groshek) of Alpine, Texas, Madison, Milwaukee, and Stevens Point was born on May 26, 1941, in Stevens Point to Harry H. and Ann Marie (nee Barwick) Groshek. Matushka married Archpriest Frederick J. Janeček on July 21, 1973, in Milwaukee. She earned a Bachelor Degree in Education from Alverno College in Milwaukee and two Master Degrees in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee as well as Pastoral Studies from Loyola University in New Orleans. She worked in the area of social work and religious education. She was a religious education coordinator at Saint Maria Goretti in Madison, Saint John the Baptist in Waunakee, and Saint Francis Xavier in Cross Plains. She was a member of the Sister of Saint Joseph of the Third Order of Saint Francis in Stevens Point as Sister Dismas and was a teacher at Saint John the Baptist in Menasha, WI and at Blessed Sacrament and Saint Adalbert in Milwaukee. She assisted Father Fredrick in his ministry especially in visiting the sick and pastoral counseling. She was an Orthodox representative to the Wisconsin Council of Churches. Carol was a breast cancer survivor and worked with women who had cancer.
She was the mother of John F. Janeček of Watertown, and the aunt of Kevin and Kori of Milwaukee and Kara of Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mary Jane and Clare Therese Groshek.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Saints Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church, 2515 S. 30th Street, Milwaukee. Visitation from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at the church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.
